**DPN MANAGEMENT HAND OVER**

Postby MeanderingMouse » Tue Jul 07, 2009 7:46 am

As some of you may know, I founded The Disney Podcast Network over
three years ago. My goals with The DPN were quite simple. First, I
wanted to bring together people with similar interests. Second, I
wanted people brought together with these similar interests to form
bonds and a community online where we could all come and share our
enjoyment of Disney. Third, I wanted a place where Disney podcasters
could help each other strengthen their creative goals. We are all
stronger together versus apart in this world. Last, I wanted to
create a place where people were accepted, could form strong and life
enriching friendships, and have some fun. The DPN has met and
EXCEEDED the personal goals I had for the space. None of this
happened by my hand alone. It was a community effort. Together with
some highly motivated and creative podcasters and fans, The DPN became
what I envisioned it to become and so much more.

Presently, my personal life hasn't left me with what I need to
continue nurturing The DPN. My involvement has been beyond minimal.
Thankfully, others have taken up the slack and we have gotten along.
It's clear that this is not enough anymore. The landscape of the
social interaction scene on The Internet has changed drastically over
the last two years alone. Community board participation has dropped
while social networks such as Twitter, Plurk, and Facebook, have
gained major momentum. Mobile networking has also taken the front
seat for everyone. Communication has become quick, terse, and
somewhat decentralized in the interest of ease of use and "instant"
feedback. We've seen proof of this with community forum traffic being
down. However, if you take a look within your own bubble, you'll see
that people's Twitter friends list / Plurk friends list are primarily
made up of DPN community members. The DPN community forums have seen a
drop in traffic, but the friendships and the community formed from The
DPN, in general, have remained strong. Proof of this is also evident
in the number of people seen gathering in the parks for things such as
Westfest. To sum it up, our community and friendships are still
strong. We are all just communicating differently.

To bolster The DPN's community and to move things forward, I have
decided to hand management of The DPN over to one of my long time
friends in the Disney podcasting world. Mike from Micecast. Mike has
always carried a passion for The DPN community and truly cares about
it's future. Mike has been involved in helping organize many events
at Westfest and has been a solid friend and member of The DPN family
since its inception. I have all confidence in Mike making The DPN a
more dynamic place to gather by making some much needed changes in the
way we communicate and gather together online. This will, most likely, involve
a re-vamped website with new software running everything. I urge all of you to
support Mike and the changes he has in mind for The DPN.

I won't be going anywhere. The Meandering Mouse will stay on The DPN
roster. I'll just be changing my involvement by taking a back seat to
decision making.

I'm excited to hand the reins over to Mike and I'm even more excited
that someone is willing to focus on breathing new life into The DPN.

************************
Mike responds here
************************

Thank you Jeff, for the kind words, and thank you for having the
confidence in me to get things done. To all the members out there I
want to say that my only goal for the DPN is to keep our trademark friendly
"vibe" while generating some excitement around here. To that end, be
on the lookout for some changes.

Like Jeff said, it is because of you that the DPN is the special place
that it is and so it is that I will need your help during this
transition (and beyond). Some of the ways that you can help are: Keep visiting,
be patient while changes are implemented, and once some of the
significant changes are implemented, help us get the word out.

I truly care about this place. I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't,
but I can't do it alone (nor do I want to). I think with just a little bit
of extra effort from all of us, we can turn this place around.

Thank you all,
Mike

Congrats Mike on taking over as Big Cheese around here! I know whatever happens it will be for the best and keep the fun alive. I agree that traffic after WF has been slow around here. It could be due to the Twitter and Facebook that goes on from peoples phones.

Thanks Jeff and Mike for not giving up on all of us around here who still love the DPN! :-D

Congratulations Mike!

While I am glad to hear that you won't be going anywhere, it is sad to hear that your personal life is not allowing you to manage the DPN as you feel necessary...your presence has been missed. Thank you for all that you've done for the DPN...for forming it and managing it since it's inception. You are the reason I joined the DPN. You created a great place to meet some wonderful people.

On the other hand, Mike's new duties present an exciting potential for the DPN and as the "Head News Monkey" l look forward to working with Mike.

Jeff,
I'm just speechless with what you have done at the DPN over the past three years since you created the community! Its been an amazing ride!!! When I looked this disney community up back in october 2006, i did not know what i was getting into. I finally registered on november 16 and i tried to get cozy. To be honest here, I think I drank too much of the cool aide when i first arrived here! LOL But others showed me the ropes here and I connected with so many members right away! Then, I decided to plan a trip to disneyland for westfest 2007. I was so excited and was looking for stuff. However, personal stuff derailed it and therefore, i didn't go that year. But, in august 2007, I was going to disneyland and i thought i would meet the local dpners johndub, mike, greg, tony from above the firehouse, or jimmy. So, I met JohnDUB on the second night there and we talk like a good hour and I felt like I known him forever. And then, final night at the parks, guess who find but Tony coming out of Haunted Mansion video taping some footage in the parks. Me, my brother, and him talked for a long time that night. My point is, you jeff created a ripple effect of bonding lifetime friendships and new memories to be created in the parks forever to be remembered. You truly have created something and it will be a piece of history I will be looking forward to introduce to other people.

Mike,
I'm glad your continuing the dream from jeff's vision and creating new developments for the DPN.

Its going to be one heck of ride to look forward to. :)

Jeff,

I want to thank you for creating the best thing that had ever happened to me...that didn't involve me getting married anyways.

I knew little of podcasting or the fact that there were as many like-minded individuals and it gave me the gumption to plan and take my first solo trip to WDW and I've gone semi-annually since and grew more and more envious with your exploits.

Mike...I welcome your reign of terror with open arms.

Thank you for all your efforts, Jeff. My mind boggles at the idea of running a small community, let alone one of this size. That the DPN exists at all speaks volumes about your work.

Mike, I know you will do a great job!

Thank you for everything, Jeff! While I may not be a DPN-megastar, I still feel like part of the family because of how, well, family-like the DPN is. And without the DPN, I might never have discovered the wacky zany joys of "Trapped on Vacation", the exuberant tween goofiness of "Magic Never Ends", the silly playful antics of "Adventures of a Teenage Disney Geek", and all the others. Kudos for that, and much more, Jeff.

Mike, you've got a huge, tough act to follow, good luck to you! :D

Lease renews into perpetuity as long as the DPN is running.

Probably not, unfortunately.

As I've said elsewhere, THANKS to Jeff for thinking up the DPN, nurturing it, and making it the incredible community that it is. I think we're all glad that even though management is changing, Jeff and The Meandering Mouse aren't going anywhere.

I'd also like to join everyone else in officially welcoming Mike as the new head of the DPN. As everyone here already knows, Mike rocks and the DPN is in good hands. I'm very excited to see the changes that are coming down the pipe!

Jeff,
Yours was the first podcast I listened to regularly. The Meandering Mouse brought me to The DPN and showed me that there are other (so-called) grown-ups as crazy as I am. The DPN podcasts provided a much-needed outlet from a difficult time in my life, and have continued to entertain, amuse, and enlighten me. I am not one of the most visible members of the community, but know that even those of us who don't say much appreciate all that you have done.

Mike,
Your dedication to MiceCast and The DPN is clear. I am excited to be a part of any changes that are to come. We'll all be here to support you. Congratulations! :jump:

Thanks Jeff for bringing this band of crazies together, and for motivating me to begin my own adventures in audio recording.

We would all be much different people today without your creative spark, and far poorer in friends, and shared magical experiences.

The DPN: brilliantly conceived, artfully executed.

A job truly well done.

Many thanks, best wishes for the future.
