Disney Park News

  • Disney Parks Blog Weekly Recap
This week, the Disney Parks family mourned the loss of a legend — Fess Parker. In his role as Davy Crockett, Fess Parker not only helped promote and open Disneyland Park but he also became a hero to many of us, including Walt Disney Company President and CEO, Robert Iger. Blog author and Walt Disney World photographer Gene Duncan also shared a unique photo and touching story. Here are a few more of the week's most popular posts.
  • Parasailing Wedding
Jenna & Robert were married onboard the Disney Cruise Line on July 19, 2008. The ceremony was on Castaway Cay and the weather was absolutely gorgeous! After the ceremony Jenna & Robert went parasailing … in their wedding attire!!
  • Paper May Fold into the Waters of ‘World of Color’
Paper and water don’t seem like an ideal match, but throw in animation and it works in a very cool way. One type of art form being considered for "World of Color" is paper animation. Local Glendale, California artist Megan Brain has created 3-dimentional paper sculptures of Disney characters that are turned into models or puppets with computer animation. The result is very fun and very unique when it is projected onto a giant water screen. Heather Hust Rivera will give a more in depth update on "World of Color" next week, but in the mean time, take a look at this video and see for yourself.
  • First Image: Disney Monorail Train Features Tron Art
Here it is...your first look at a Tron light cycle on our "highway in the sky" at Walt Disney World. And beginning today, you can see it for yourself on the Epcot monorail line. As you learned when we posted the artist renderings, Tron: Legacy is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s scheduled to hit the big screen at the end of the year. Of course, there will be more in upcoming months, but we wanted to share this image with you first on The Disney Parks Blog.
  • Disney Legend Fess Parker Remembered
Tonight, the Disney Parks family is mourning the loss of a legend -- Fess Parker. In his role as Davy Crockett, Fess Parker not only helped promote and open Disneyland Park but he also became a hero to many of us, including Walt Disney Company President and CEO, Robert Iger.
  • Disney Parks ‘Quick Hits’ – March 18th, 2010
Join me for a walk around the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and you'll hear it -- "I want that in my yard." I say it when seeing images like the one Gene Duncan captured for today's "Quick Hits" post. But for others of you, it's strictly character topiaries. So, this week, we asked our Walt Disney World Facebook fans, "If you could create a Disney topiary for your yard, which character would you choose?" Thanks to the thousands of you who have already responded.
  • Balloon with a View
No matter where you are in the Parks you can't help but see balloons. Here’s a unique perspective I captured while looking through a Mickey Mouse balloon on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland park.

  • Mickey’s merchandise can be creative, tempting
As much as I visit the theme parks, I’m somewhat immune to the call of the souvenir stands and gift shops. To buy something every time is just Crazy Talk and fiscally irresponsible. I can exit Expedition Everest at Animal Kingdom without breaking stride in the store. However, on a trip last week to Magic Kingdom, I found [...]
  • Disney monorail receives ‘Tron’ makeover
Walt Disney World has introduced a new look to one of its monorail trains. The redesign is temporary and touts the upcoming film Tron: Legacy, which is a sequel to the 1982 Disney film Tron. The new movie, starring Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde and John Hurt, is expected to be released in December. In the [...]
  • Don’t overlook Disney cookbooks when souvenir shopping
Theme park gift stores often sell cookbooks featuring Disney recipes. Look for them the next time you are looking for a great souvenir. This sweet and sour chicken recipe was published in Family Fun — Fast Family Dinners (Disney Editions, $14.95) in 2004.  This cookbook, from the editors of Disney’s Family Fun magazine, is not currently [...]
  • Disney pin traders: 3-day ticketed Epcot party planned for August
Disney Pin Trading started A Decade of Magical Trades, a year-long celebration of its 10th birthday, on Oct. 1, 2009. Throughout the year, limited release pin collections and special events mark the milestone at Walt Disney World and Disneyland. Registration for the centerpiece, a three-day, hard-ticket party, opens this month. A 10th anniversary “Founders Day” celebration [...]
  • From the recipe archives: Pop Century’s fried chicken an all-American classic
Today’s recipe request is for Buttermilk Fried Chicken from Classic Hall at Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Featuring larger-than-life pop icons such as a Big Wheel, Play-Doh, a Rubik’s Cube, a Duncan yo-yo, bowling pins, a Mickey Mouse telephone, a laptop computer, eight-track tapes, cellular phones and more, the resort is near Disney’s Wide World of [...]
  • Traveling in a pack: Disney Princesses convene in New York to welcome Tiana
Normally, I would have avoided posting pictures from this week’s “coronation” of Princess Tiana in New York City, where she was “officially” welcomed into the Disney Princess fold.  And didn’t we do this already at the Magic Kingdom last year? Seems a bit made-up and only in the minds of Disney Consumer Products, you know, [...]
  • Guest stars set for Star Wars Weekends
The guest-star lineup has been revealed for the 2010 Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which begins May 21. This year’s event will double as a 30th anniversary celebration of  Star Wars: Episode V — The Empire Strikes Back. Star Wars Weekends, which runs four consecutive weekends (including Fridays) through June 13, features meet-and-greets, motorcades, star [...]
